Geothermal Energy - Why Consider Anything Else?
What could be better than going to the thermostat, knowing that you will be cool or warm in just a moment’s time, without concern for your utility bill? Today, geothermal closed-loop systems provide people with comfortable heating and cooling at savings of up to 70% over fossil fuel systems. Our geothermal systems allow you to receive free hot water during the summer. Also, they are better for the environment because they require no carbon dioxide or other fuel.
The system is very simple in concept and design. During the summer, heat is pulled from the house and stored in the ground. A heat exchange occurs, allowing the returning solution to be at optimum temperature for the next cycle. This is very similar to a car's radiator, which pulls heat away from the engine, passes it over a cooler medium (air, in this case), and cools the returning mixture so it can recirculate and provide maximum performance. Geothermal systems provide heat in the winter by pulling the cool air from the house, circulating it through the warmed ground (from the summer's storage), and bringing that warmth back into the house.
Since energy is merely being transferred back and forth with nothing being burned or manufactured, the cost to operate is drastically reduced. It is not unusual to see utility bills cut from $2,500 per year to $700 or less. The concept is so functional and practical that it is endorsed and promoted by a geothermal heat pump consortium comprised of government energy departments, scientists, utility companies, manufacturers, and environmental agencies. Geothermal energy—why consider anything else?
